YLBHI Condemns Prabowo's Attendance at Board of Peace Summit

The Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) has assessed that Indonesia's involvement in the Board of Peace demonstrates the chaos of Prabowo's foreign policy, which reduces crimes against humanity committed by the United States and Israel against Palestine.

YLBHI Chairman Muhammad Isnur strongly condemned President Prabowo Subianto's attendance at the Board of Peace (BoP) meeting held on 19 February 2026 in Washington DC, where the president was set to discuss fundraising for Gaza reconstruction alongside 20 other BoP member states.

YLBHI noted at least four major problems should Indonesia remain in the Board of Peace. First, it has the potential to disregard international human rights law and damage Indonesia's diplomatic credibility, particularly given that US President Donald Trump, as president of the BoP, has stated "I don't need international law" — which YLBHI said directly demonstrates his contempt for international legal norms.

Second, membership contradicts the strong national public sentiment that has historically supported Palestine. Third, YLBHI stressed the importance of respecting the legal process at the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding alleged human rights violations in the Palestinian conflict, noting the BoP's apparent indifference to accountability for alleged crimes committed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Fourth, the Board of Peace lacks the accountable and transparent human rights mechanisms typical of established international organisations and was not founded on the basis of international law.

YLBHI argued that Indonesia's prioritisation of BoP activities over its responsibilities as president of the UN Human Rights Council further neglects the international human rights principles that should take precedence.

The foundation affirmed that Indonesia's involvement in the BoP, which includes Israel as a member, constitutes a betrayal of the constitution and the Indonesian people's solidarity with Palestinian independence. YLBHI demanded that Indonesia immediately re-evaluate its involvement and withdraw from the Board of Peace.
