YIA Kulon Progo Airport ready to welcome Lebaran 2026 homecoming traffic
Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in Kulon Progo Regency has expressed full readiness to safeguard the Lebaran 2026 homecoming flow under the theme Mudik Aman, Keluarga Bahagia. This commitment was outlined by YIA General Manager Ruly Artha during a working visit by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) RI General (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago at YIA, Kulon Progo, on Wednesday. Ruly Artha assured that all operational lines under PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia will work extra to ensure passenger comfort. ‘We have 669 combined personnel on standby and the airport will operate 24 hours a day from 13 to 30 March 2026. Our focus is on flexibility to accommodate ’extra flights’ without compromising service standards at all,’ he said. He noted that YIA’s infrastructure advantages include disaster-resilient features, from earthquake and tsunami early-warning systems to readiness of the firefighting team (ARFF) and drainage systems for extreme weather. ‘YIA is an airport with high resilience. Our mitigation facilities, from evacuation routes to safety equipment, are in prime condition to handle any contingency,’ he said. He added that with a projected 259,491 passengers, YIA is applying ‘Management Operation Based on Traffic’ (MOT) to monitor crowding in real time. ‘Passengers are also pampered with inclusive facilities such as ’Buggy Car’, ‘Virtual Customer Service’, and an SOS button for disabled travellers. The Ramadan ambience is enhanced with live music and thematic decorations,’ he said. Ruly noted that the airport’s status as one of the cleanest airports in Asia-Pacific (ACI ASQ Award 2025) remains strictly maintained with dedicated cleaners at each point during peak hours. ‘On health, surveillance remains a priority through the installation of a thermal scanner to anticipate Nipah virus transmission among travellers from abroad,’ he said. Kulon Progo Regent Agung Setyawan, who attended the event, assessed YIA’s readiness as highly comprehensive, from transport mode integration to service control. ‘Preparations for transport and service facilities for homebound travellers at YIA have been presented in great detail. We are ensuring the best service for residents returning home, both via the airport and other land routes,’ he said. During the event, the Coordinating Minister also greeted passengers in the terminal area and distributed souvenirs. The delegation then travelled to central Yogyakarta by the Airport Express train.
