Jakarta (ANTARA) - Various political news items were reported by the ANTARA news agency on Thursday (14/5), ranging from the Presidential Staff Office assuring that the government is open to criticism to legislators stating that the Nusantara Capital (IKN) development project will not stop.

Here is a recap of yesterday’s political news for your review.

  1. Dismissing intimidation claims, KSP assures government is open to criticism

The Head of the Presidential Staff, Retired General TNI Dudung Abdurachman, has refuted rumours suggesting intimidation and pressure by the government or law enforcement agencies against the public or civil society organisations critical of the government.

Responding to journalists’ questions regarding the results of a survey by one institution, Dudung emphasised that the government is open to criticism and critical inputs provided by the public.

  1. Home Affairs Ministry-South Korea collaboration to strengthen national emergency services

The Director General of Regional Administration Development at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Safrizal Zakaria Ali, stated that his office has established cooperation with South Korea’s National Fire Agency to strengthen and develop the Single Emergency Call Number (NTPD) 112 in Indonesia.

“The development of NTPD 112 is one of the government’s priorities in providing fast and integrated services,” said Safrizal.

  1. Legislator: U-17 World Cup broadcast should strengthen public media’s role

Member of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Hendry Munief, urged that the TVRI broadcast of the U-17 World Cup be maximised not only as a sports broadcasting event but also as a means to strengthen the role of public media in society.

According to him, sports agendas offer significant opportunities to enhance the quality of public broadcasting. “The key to success lies in collaboration and the right strategy, including utilising every piece of content available,” he said.

  1. Legislator: Constitutional Court ruling on the capital city must be the benchmark

Member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Indrajaya, stated that the Constitutional Court’s (MK) decision that the capital city remains in Jakarta until there is a presidential decision regarding its relocation to the Nusantara Capital (IKN) must serve as the benchmark for national policies.

“The Constitutional Court ruling must be the final benchmark in ensuring that all national strategic policies proceed based on legal certainty, not merely political will,” said Indrajaya in response to ruling number 71/PUU-XXIV/2026.

  1. DPR member: Constitutional Court ruling on the capital does not mean the IKN project stops

Member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Romy Soekarno, assessed that the Constitutional Court’s (MK) decision affirming the special status of Jakarta as the capital city does not mean that the Nusantara Capital (IKN) development project in East Kalimantan is to be halted.

Romy said that IKN development can continue, but the approach must be more realistic, phased, measured, and strategic in line with the state’s capabilities and national priorities.
