- Be vigilant against online violence; parents urged to be digitally literate
The Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Arifah Fauzi has urged all cadres of Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) to be more wary of the negative impact of social media, including online-based violence that threatens women and children.
“Online crime today no longer only threatens children, but also affects parenting patterns, morality, and family resilience. Parents need to improve digital literacy and understand their children’s activities in the digital space to keep the child safe from various forms of online violence and exploitation,” said PPPA Minister Arifah Fauzi.
- Kemdiktisaintek optimise Satgas PPKPT to prevent violence on campus
The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, Research and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) is encouraging all higher education institutions to optimise the Task Force for Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (Satgas PPKPT) to create a safe campus.
Director of Learning and Students at Kemdiktisaintek, Beny Bandanadjaja, stressed that this step is taken to build learning spaces free from all forms of threat.
- Khofifah: Pesantren have a strategic role in forming the nation’s character
Gubernatorial Khofifah Indar Parawansa of East Java (Jatim) said pesantren have a strategic role not only as educational institutions, but also as hubs for shaping character, morals, and the nation’s civilization.
“As one of the oldest pesantrens in East Java, Pesantren Zainul Hasan Genggong is not merely an educational institution, but has grown into a robust moral defence fortress for East Java and Indonesia,” Khofifah said.
- BNPB: Floods sweep three provinces following 24 hours of heavy rain
The National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) said heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours precipitated floods across several areas in three provinces: Central Sulawesi, South Kalimantan, and West Java.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Crisis Communication Centre Abdul Muhari said that floods caused by river overflow due to heavy rain inundated thousands of homes and public facilities, forcing some residents to evacuate.
- Ministry of Health confirms no Ebola cases in Indonesia so far
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has confirmed that there have been no Ebola cases detected in Indonesia to date, but it remains vigilant in response to the World Health Organization’s designation of the Ebola outbreak in Congo as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
Public Communications and Information Bureau Head Aji Muhawarman said the WHO emergency status shows the need for global vigilance, even though the virus spread has not yet been categorised as a pandemic. The ministry continues to monitor the global situation and strengthen cross-sector preparedness. We are ensuring that entry points into the country, including ports and airports, enhance screening for travellers, particularly those from affected countries,” said Aji.
