Yellow, yellow everywhere
Yellow, yellow everywhere
From Neraca
Whatever reason there is behind the widespread use of yellow
to color all objects in Surakarta, Central Java, the action is
childish and immature.
The use of yellow paint for public and social facilities
reflects personal or group interest and blatantly ignores
people's rights. Imagine if all objects, including trees
were painted yellow.
Why were Indonesian workers returning from Malaysia to
Surabaya made to wear yellow T-shirts? What was the link between
their repatriation and the color yellow? Actually we should be
ashamed of their return because they were sent back as they were
considered illegal labor.
The regional administration of Surakarta has threatened to sue
people for painting the yellow objects white again. Is there any
ground for this? The restoration of the original color should not
be considered public destruction. Besides, white is commonly
accepted as the color for public and social facilities.
