Yaqut Placed Under House Arrest, KPK: Request from Family
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has transferred the detention of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas from the detention centre to house arrest following a request from his family. “The request came from the family,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when confirmed by Kompas.com on Saturday (21/3/2026). The request was granted two days later. “Investigators have changed the type of detention for the suspect Mr YCQ, from detention at the KPK Detention Centre to house arrest, starting from Thursday evening (19/3/2026),” Budi stated. This transfer of detention was carried out after reviewing Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code. The KPK stated that this transfer is only temporary. “We ensure that the detention transfer process for this temporary period complies with the provisions and procedures for investigation and detention of a suspect,” Budi emphasised. “During the implementation of this detention transfer, the KPK will continue to carry out close supervision and security for the individual concerned,” Budi added. The presence of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has become a concern in the KPK detention environment. This arose after several detainees no longer saw Yaqut. Former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer conveyed through his wife, Silvia Harefa, that Yaqut has not been seen in the detention centre since Thursday evening (19/3/2026). Furthermore, Silvia was told that Yaqut was not among the detainees performing Eid al-Fitr prayers at the KPK Merah Putih Mosque this morning. “They were just wondering, they said there was an examination, but it’s unlikely to have an examination on the eve of Takbiran night like that. Up to today, he’s not there,” Silvia explained.
