Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Indonesian Embassy in Yaoundé has facilitated a series of inter-university cooperation activities during a visit to Indonesia by a delegation from Cameroon and other Central African countries. The visit coincided with events surrounding Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026.

The initiative forms part of the government’s efforts to expand the Indonesia–Cameroon partnership in higher education, research and human-resource development, the embassy said on Thursday.

The programme included public lectures at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta and the University of Indonesia; exploratory cooperation visits by the University of Ngaoundéré to Pancasila University and Pertamina University; and the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the Three Pillars of Higher Education between the University of Ngaoundéré and Nurul Jadid University.

“These three types of activity reflect efforts to build academic ties, explore partnership opportunities and promote practical cooperation between higher education institutions in Indonesia and Cameroon,” the embassy said.

A key agenda item was the University of Ngaoundéré’s exploratory visit to Pancasila University and Pertamina University.

The visit aimed to explore potential partnerships in higher education, research and academic capacity-building, taking into account each institution’s strengths and priorities.

The MoU on cooperation under the Three Pillars of Higher Education is expected to provide a basis for strengthening the academic partnership between the two institutions. This may include public lectures, exchanges of knowledge and academic perspectives, and cross-border intellectual dialogue to broaden the outlook of the academic communities and strengthen Indonesia–Cameroon higher education ties, the embassy said.

During the public lectures at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and the University of Indonesia, the delegation had the opportunity to share perspectives, broaden its understanding and hold discussions on academic issues and potential cooperation between Indonesia and Cameroon.

The Yaoundé embassy hopes the initiatives will lead to concrete, sustained programmes, including exchanges of academics and students, research collaboration and the development of joint education programmes.

Facilitating inter-university cooperation also reflects Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening relations with Cameroon and Central African countries through education diplomacy and human-resource development.
