Yamaha still studying the electric motorcycle market in Indonesia
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) is still monitoring and studying the development of the electric motorcycle market in Indonesia.
“Yamaha’s concern with EVs is certain; we are still watching and learning. We are still observing the market conditions,” said YIMM’s Public Relations Manager Rifki Maulana in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5).
He explained that the investment required to produce and market electric vehicles is not insignificant, so the company is not rushing into decisions.
“As we know, investment is not a small matter,” he said.
Yamaha currently provides the Yamaha Neo’s electric motorcycle through a business-to-business cooperation scheme in Indonesia.
The company collaborates with Grab Indonesia to supply electric motorcycles for ojek drivers partnered with the online transport service booking platform in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi areas.
This partnership is intended to test the operation of electric vehicles while studying market conditions, including consumer acceptance and the development of the electrification ecosystem.
“Certainly, compared to previous generation engines, engines with Blue Core technology have much better fuel efficiency,” he said.
Although it has not yet marketed pure electric motorcycles, Yamaha has introduced vehicles with hybrid technology such as the Fazio Hybrid-Connected and Grand Filano Hybrid-Connected in the Indonesian market.
