Yamaha Maintains Non-Hybrid 125cc Scooter Line-up Despite Declining Demand
Jakarta, Kompas.com – Yamaha’s 125cc scooter segment in Indonesia is now increasingly dominated by models featuring hybrid technology, reflecting changing consumer preferences and market acceptance of modern fuel-efficiency features.
Despite this shift, Yamaha continues to maintain several long-established non-hybrid models. These include the Mio M3, Fino, X-Ride, FreeGo, and Gear.
Currently, Yamaha’s hybrid scooter line-up comprises models such as the Gear Ultima, Grand Filano, and Fazzio, which are reported to command greater market dominance in terms of sales. All three offer hybrid technology that enhances initial acceleration whilst simultaneously improving fuel consumption efficiency.
“Our line-up now has many hybrid models. Naturally, the market is absorbing more hybrid units,” said Rifki in Jakarta on Friday (27 February 2026).
Nevertheless, Yamaha has not ceased production of non-hybrid models such as Fino, Mio M3, Gear, FreeGo, and X-Ride. These models remain in the catalogue to meet consumer demand for conventional engine scooters.
This strategy enables Yamaha to pursue two approaches simultaneously in the 125cc segment, introducing new technology through hybrid models whilst preserving older product choices.
This approach is considered important to ensure technology transition occurs gradually without abandoning the established consumer segment.
