Yakult to boost RI output

TOKYO (AFP): Yakult Honsha Co. Ltd., Japan's biggest lactic acid drinks maker, will invest US$27 million to build a new plant and boost beverage output in Indonesia, a company spokesman said yesterday.

Yakult plans to raise its production capacity in Indonesia from 730,000 65-milliliter (1.95-ounce) packs a day to 1.77 million early next year by building another factory near Jakarta besides one currently operating in the Indonesian capital.

The company also plans to raise daily beverage output to three million units by 2000, the spokesman said.

Yakult has raised output at its Brazilian plant to four million units a day, up about 30 percent from the beginning of the year.
