China’s flagship smartphone prices could be set higher still. Xiaomi president Lu Weibing recently warned that prices for flagship models could be more than 10,000 yuan by the end of 2026, around Rp 25.7 million. If this materialises, the price increase would be drastic; flagship Xiaomi models such as the Xiaomi 17 Ultra are currently priced from 6,999 yuan (around Rp 17.9 million) for the 12/512 GB RAM variant. However, Weibing did not specify whether his projection referred to base RAM configurations or the top variant. The warning about price rises is based on increases in memory prices, which are becoming harder for smartphone vendors to circumvent. Despite the rise, Weibing assured consumers that the company remains focused on value wherever possible. The Xiaomi executive also explained that supply issues cannot be resolved quickly by memory manufacturers. Therefore, Weibing believes memory price pressure will continue into 2027 or even 2028. As for forthcoming smartphones like the Xiaomi 17 Max, these are still under internal discussion given volatile component costs. The smartphone is scheduled for release in May 2026 and will be the new model in the Xiaomi 17 series flagship line. If Lu Weibing’s warning proves correct, it would mark a shift in the Chinese smartphone market, as the challenge of higher memory and component costs is likely to spread to other vendors including Oppo, Vivo and Honor. Additionally, Chinese smartphone pricing is typically aggressive, making it a major draw for consumers, according to KompasTekno from Gizmochina. This is not the first time; since the end of last year, Lu Weibing has issued a similar warning.
