An ambitious collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica has created a new standard in mobile photography as the Chinese technology firm officially launches the Leica Leitzphone in Indonesia. The phone features a camera design reminiscent of a professional camera with a rotating lens. The device is more than a premium smartphone addition to the local market; it is a statement of art that fuses Leica’s legendary optical design heritage with today’s digital technology, delivering the sensation of holding a traditional Leica camera in a more compact and intelligent form.

“For Leica, nothing is more important in photography than an essence, and the Leitzphone fully embodies that philosophy in every image produced. With a Xiaomi HyperOS touch, users are assured of a beautiful, stable, and intuitive software experience, reviving the traditional Leica approach that photographers have long relied on while creating,” said Abee Hakim, Head of PR Xiaomi Indonesia, at the Jakarta launch on Tuesday (3/3).

Leitzphone adopts Leica’s meticulous design aspects, from the classic frame texture that provides solid grip to the iconic red Leica logo in the corner of the device. The use of premium aluminium with a striped texture not only gives an aura of luxury but also creates physical precision typically found only in professional cameras.

One of the standout innovations is the functional camera ring. This feature blends vision and touch intuitively, allowing users to rotate the camera ring to manually adjust various photography parameters, such as focus, aperture stop, ISO, and white balance. This feature gives creative freedom for users to feel like they are shooting with a professional camera.

Through Essential Mode, users can access the visual character of Leica’s two most historic cameras. Leica M9 mode offers red and blue colour depth that is uniquely characteristic of the CCD sensor, while Leica M3 mode presents a very strong black-and-white character. Both emulations enable users to produce artful photos with high artistic value and an instant nostalgic mood.

Not only focusing on the camera line, the phone also arrives with the most advanced smartphone technology in its class, including an upgraded Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, powered and supported by a 6,000 mAh battery, and an IP68 rating meaning water and dust resistance.

The phone also runs the specially optimised Xiaomi HyperOS, ensuring a user interface that remains consistent with Leica typography and iconography, while delivering stable and fast performance. This combination guarantees that every process from image capture to editing runs smoothly without technical obstacles.

With a host of sophisticated technologies especially in the Leica Leitzphone’s camera line, the phone with RAM and internal memory variant 16GB + 1TB is sold with a limited price of Rp29.9 million. (H-2)
