KOMPAS.com – The technology company Xiaomi has introduced an artificial intelligence tool named Xiaomi MiClaw. The device is designed to turn smartphones into autonomous AI assistants capable of performing tasks across a range of features and apps, not merely a chatbot that answers questions or generates text.

According to the Chinese company, MiClaw is built on the MiMo AI model developed independently by Xiaomi. The device is designed to interpret user intent and complete tasks by interacting with other tools available on the phone.

So how does MiClaw’s mechanism enable it to perform such advanced capabilities? Xiaomi states that the “inference-execution loop” is the core of the system powering MiClaw. The system analyses the request, then selects the tool and parameters, executes the action, reviews the results, and continues the process until completion, with each step claimed to occur without blocking other processes on the phone.

MiClaw is also equipped with a memory system designed to help the AI learn from repeated use. Consequently, the more it is used, MiClaw will better understand the user, particularly when handling advanced tasks, without needing initial briefing.

The AI device will also be connectable to the Xiaomi ecosystem thanks to integration with the Mi Home platform. Thereby, MiClaw can read the status of a range of smart home devices and even issue commands.

Despite these features, MiClaw remains experimental and available in a limited capacity. The AI device is released in closed beta and can only be used by invited testers. Because it is still in testing, Xiaomi advises testers not to install MiClaw on their primary smartphone, and recommends backing up before installation.

At the same time, Xiaomi is striving to improve consistency, power consumption, and the success rate for more complex tasks and operations that have not yet succeeded.

Currently, MiClaw supports only a few phone models, including Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 17 Ultra, and the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition.

Xiaomi emphasises that user data when interacting with MiClaw will not be used to train its AI models. According to Xiaomi, model training depends on datasets that are publicly available or authorised. Personal interaction data is claimed to be used only to process real-time commands. Personal data is also claimed to be processed locally on the device using the ‘edge-cloud privacy computing’ technology, as reported by KompasTekno citing Gizmochina.
