Xi: China and Russia uphold the principle of non-alignment, reject hegemony
Beijing (ANTARA) – President Xi Jinping of China said that China and Russia have for years adhered to the principle of non-alignment, avoided confrontation, and not targeted third parties. ‘For many years, our countries have upheld the principle of non-alignment and have not engaged in confrontation or targeted third parties,’ Xi said in a statement to the media on Wednesday (20/5) after holding talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Xi said Russia and China should continue to support each other on issues of mutual interest and concern, and maintain close strategic dialogue and communication. ‘The world today is very volatile. The damage caused by unilateral actions and ill-defined hegemonism. There is a threat of the return of the law of the jungle,’ he said. Xi emphasised that China and Russia will act as responsible global powers, upholding the authority of the UN and international justice. The two countries also reject all forms of unilateralism and hegemonism, as well as attempts to rewrite history aimed at denying the outcomes of World War II, Xi said. Xi added that China and Russia must work together to advance international cooperation and strengthen the global governance system.
