X (formerly Twitter) Enforces Minimum Age Requirement of 16 Years in Indonesia from 27 March
The social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has begun implementing a minimum age requirement of 16 years for users in Indonesia.
This policy is being implemented as part of compliance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic System Operations in Child Protection (PP Tunas).
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) stated that X’s decision regarding the user age limit represents a concrete step by the global platform in fulfilling its obligations under national regulations.
The age restriction rule for X users in Indonesia will take effect on 27 March 2026.
In its implementation, the platform will conduct identification and deactivation of user accounts that do not meet the minimum age requirement provisions in force.
“Kemkomdigi will conduct periodic monitoring of the progress of this process to ensure compliance with the PP Tunas regulations is fulfilled,” said Director General Alexander.
Beyond X, the government has also requested other electronic system operators (PSE) that have received letters from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs to promptly provide formal responses and adjust their services accordingly.
According to Alexander, swift action from all social media platforms is a crucial factor in creating a safe digital ecosystem for children in Indonesia.
Kemkomdigi is also awaiting similar commitments from other platforms to demonstrate compliance with the regulations applicable in Indonesia.
