Workers Rally on Motorcycles Outside DPR Building, Causing Traffic Jams

Thousands of workers have gathered at the front gate of the DPR RI on Thursday (16 April 2026) to hold a demonstration today. From CNBC Indonesia’s observations, the workers arrived gradually from 10:00 WIB. Then, around 11:00 WIB, the workers began delivering speeches.

Around 11:30 WIB, thousands of workers who convoyed by motorcycle from Bekasi and Bogor arrived in front of the DPR RI. Even traffic was disrupted following the arrival of the motorbike worker convoy.

In addition, 30 police personnel have been deployed in front of the DPR RI. Workers from the Indonesian Metal Workers’ Federation (FSPMI) and the Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KSPI) began waving flags during the demonstration. Besides flags, the workers also carried banners reading “Abolish Outsourcing and Reject Low Wages (HOSTUM)” and “Enact the Employment Law (UU)”.

Chants of “Long Live the Workers” echoed again during today’s demonstration. Today’s demonstration is being held as part of preparations for Labour Day (May Day) on 1 May. The workers refer to this action as pre-May Day.

In this pre-May Day demonstration, several demands will be voiced, such as the enactment of the Employment Bill (RUU Ketenagakerjaan), the abolition of low wages and outsourcing (HOSTUM), and several Labour Day demands, namely stopping layoff threats due to war and vehicle imports, tax reform, and others.

  • Tax transformation: PTKP to Rp7.5 million per month, abolish THR tax, severance, pension JHT

  • Enact the Asset Confiscation Bill

  • Ride-hailing deduction rate 10% not 20%

  • Ratify ILO Convention No. 190 on anti-violence against female workers
