Workers protest dismissal plan
JAKARTA (JP): A number of employees of PT. Dumas Utama marched to the City Council yesterday to protest against the company's plans to fire them and some other workers.
The company, which provides oil engineering services, is planning to dismiss some of its employees in order to improve efficiency, Antara reported.
Immediately after meeting with the workers, H. Ace Mulyadi, chairman of Commission E, which oversees public welfare affairs, held a meeting with the company's top executives, including its president, Gandung Atmadji, its administrative and business manager, Djaelani Syahran and its personnel department head, Lubis.
Atje later told newsmen that the company's plans to fire some of its workers stemmed from its worsening financial situation.
He said the company had reported its plans to the South Jakarta Manpower Office, which had advised PT. Dumas Utama to proceed in accordance with Law No.12/1964, regarding the dismissal of employees of private companies. (bas)
