Indonesia’s Transport Minister (Menhub), Dudy Purwagandhi, announced that the government will implement a work from anywhere (WFA) policy on 25-27 March 2026. He expressed hope that with the implementation of WFA, there will be no congestion of return traffic during the Eid holiday on H+4 Eid.

“With the implementation of WFA on 25, 26, and 27 March, it is hoped that return traffic will not accumulate on H+4 or Wednesday, 25 March, when the public holiday period has ended,” Dudy said during a meeting to discuss infrastructure readiness and transportation services for the 2026 Eid holiday with Commission V of the House of Representatives in Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (11 March 2026).

Dudy explained that the public continues to use private vehicles as the primary transport mode for the holiday period. He noted that approximately 50.63 million people are estimated to use toll roads to travel home.

“Nationally, in terms of transport mode choice, private vehicles remain the main means for those traveling home, with 76.24 million people, followed by motorcycles and buses. The majority of vehicle users utilise toll roads, reaching 50.63 million people,” he said.

“Motorcycle riders, meanwhile, choose alternative routes outside the main highways, numbering 8.65 million people, which has the potential to increase congestion on arterial roads and inter-regional connecting routes,” he continued.

On this occasion, Dudy also presented projections for population movement during the 2026 Eid holiday. He said it is predicted that 143.91 million people will travel home.

“Population movement during the 2026 Eid holiday transport period reaches 50.60 per cent of Indonesia’s population, equivalent to 143.91 million people. This figure has decreased by 1.75 per cent compared to the results of the 2025 Eid holiday transport survey, which was around 146 million people,” Dudy said.

“However, in actual implementation, the number of population movements in 2025 reached 145 million people. This shows that public mobility during the Eid holiday period tends to exceed the figures estimated in the survey,” he continued.

Dudy also detailed the origins and destinations of traveller movements nationally. He said the largest movement originates from West Java.

“The largest movement originates from West Java, approximately 30.97 million people, followed by DKI Jakarta and East Java. In terms of destination, the largest flow is directed towards Central Java, numbering 38.71 million people, followed by East Java and West Java,” he said.

Meanwhile, at the district and city level, the origins of journeys are dominated by densely populated areas, such as East Jakarta with 2.56 million people, Bogor Regency, and Bekasi Regency. The destinations are districts in the Central Java region.

“Meanwhile, destinations are largely concentrated in districts in the Central Java region,” he said.

Furthermore, Dudy presented population movement in Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi), with the largest originating from Bogor. The favourite destination is Central Java.

“Within the Jabodetabek area, the largest origin of population movement is in Bogor Regency, with 5.35 million people, followed by Tangerang Regency. Meanwhile, the favourite destination province for Jabodetabek residents is Central Java,” he added.
