Women's health
Women's health
From Media Indonesia
Lately it has been widely demanded that abortion be legalized.
Legalized abortion its proponents say, would protect society
from the costs of unwanted pregnancy, both social and economic.
Pro-abortionists point to the high mortality rate of pregnant
mothers in Indonesia -- 450 out of every 100,000 births (alive),
the highest in Asia, another reason they say for the need to
revise Law No. 23/1992.
Is it true that the legalization of abortion will be a panacea
to women's health problems? In my opinion, the proposed solution
will only create new problems.
In reality, unwanted pregnancies are not solely based on
health concerns -- most abortions are performed because the
couples concerned cannot bear the stigma and shame that this
pregnancy brings -- the fruit of the free sex now common among
teenagers.
In my opinion there are three things that must be addressed to
stop the need for abortions and solve the other related problems
facing the nation. First, every individual needs to have a high
religious consciousness. Second, members of the community should
remind each other of the importance of human values. And third,
society should be freed from such principles as capitalism,
secularism and liberalism.
