Lately it has been widely demanded that abortion be legalized.<\/p>\n
Legalized abortion its proponents say, would protect society
\nfrom the costs of unwanted pregnancy, both social and economic.<\/p>\n
Pro-abortionists point to the high mortality rate of pregnant
\nmothers in Indonesia -- 450 out of every 100,000 births (alive),
\nthe highest in Asia, another reason they say for the need to
\nrevise Law No. 23\/1992.<\/p>\n
Is it true that the legalization of abortion will be a panacea
\nto women's health problems? In my opinion, the proposed solution
\nwill only create new problems.<\/p>\n
In reality, unwanted pregnancies are not solely based on
\nhealth concerns -- most abortions are performed because the
\ncouples concerned cannot bear the stigma and shame that this
\npregnancy brings -- the fruit of the free sex now common among
\nteenagers.<\/p>\n
In my opinion there are three things that must be addressed to
\nstop the need for abortions and solve the other related problems
\nfacing the nation. First, every individual needs to have a high
\nreligious consciousness. Second, members of the community should
\nremind each other of the importance of human values. And third,
\nsociety should be freed from such principles as capitalism,
\nsecularism and liberalism.<\/p>\n
