Jakarta — Indonesia’s Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi, conducted a direct inspection of Kampung Rambutan Terminal whilst simultaneously providing education regarding restrictions on children’s social media use.

“This is part of our series of visits to monitor the 2026 Lebaran exodus. We also took the opportunity to conduct outreach about restricting social media account usage,” Arifah said after inspecting the readiness of Kampung Rambutan Terminal in East Jakarta on Monday.

Today’s inspection was undertaken to monitor the Lebaran 2026 travel surge whilst providing public education on child protection, particularly regarding social media restrictions for children under 16 years of age. The visit also formed part of the government’s broader monitoring efforts at various transportation hubs.

“This series of visits ensures that services for travellers run smoothly whilst addressing protection aspects for women and children during the Lebaran journey,” she explained.

Prior to inspecting Kampung Rambutan Terminal, she visited the Halim area to assess transportation facility readiness ahead of the peak travel period. “This is part of our series of visits to monitor the 2026 Lebaran exodus. At Kampung Rambutan Terminal, I observed that the terminal is now cleaner than before,” Arifah said.

According to her, improved terminal services were also evident from the numerous facilities provided for travellers. This improvement resulted from cooperation among various parties involved in service delivery during the Lebaran period. Multiple institutions and organisations contributed to supporting terminal operations, including Boy Scout volunteers, the National Zakat Alms Agency (Baznas), women and child protection organisations, along with support from the Ministry of Transportation and police.

“The facilities provided are extensive and there is considerable collaboration, demonstrating that everyone wants to provide the best welcome and service to the community,” Arifah said.

During this opportunity, she utilised the gathering of travellers to conduct outreach regarding the policy restricting social media account usage for children under 16 years, as regulated under Ministry of Communications and Digital Regulation (Permen Kondisi) Number 9 of 2026.

The regulation aims to protect children from various potential digital risks, including age-inappropriate content exposure, cyberbullying, and personal data misuse. According to Arifah, public response to the policy has been sufficiently positive. Based on dialogue she conducted with several travellers at the terminal, most parents support restricting social media usage for children.

“We also conducted outreach about restricting social media account usage for children under 16. From those I questioned, parents support this decision,” she said.

However, she acknowledged that some children initially objected to the regulation because they had become accustomed to using social media in their daily activities. Yet, after receiving explanation regarding the policy’s objectives, many began to understand its benefits for protecting their futures.

Overall, the number of passengers departing from Kampung Rambutan Terminal has continuously increased in recent days. On 11 March, 587 passengers departed using 68 buses. On 12 March, this increased to 700 passengers with 81 buses. A significant surge was evident on 13 March with 1,694 passengers transported using 147 buses. On 14 March, passenger numbers increased again to 2,303 people with 154 buses operating. By 15 March, passenger numbers had reached approximately 2,756 people.

With the rising number of travellers, Kampung Rambutan Terminal management ensures passenger services continue running smoothly, including bus departure arrangements and passenger comfort within the terminal area.
