Woman jailed for abusing maid
SINGAPORE: A woman was jailed for seven weeks after her
Indonesian maid jumped out of a second-floor Singapore flat to
escape abuse, a newspaper reported on Friday.
Amelia Mohamed Ishak, 28, pleaded guilty in a magistrate's
court to hurting the 20-year-old maid by twisting her ears,
hitting and kicking her for not doing her chores well.
In sentencing Amelia, Magistrate Eric Tin said she had used
"excessive violence".
Muslikah Suliandi broke her right leg in the fall last Jan.
22, but managed to approach a couple for help. They took her to a
police center, and Muslikah was hospitalized for four days.
The court heard on Thursday the maid was doing the household
chores when Amelia reprimanded her for not hanging the clothes
properly. --DPA
