JAKARTA – The North Jakarta Metropolitan Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman identified as DR for abandoning her newborn baby at Pasar Nalo, Pademangan Barat, North Jakarta, on Monday, 2 March 2026.

The Head of Public Relations Section of North Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Iptu Maryati Jonggi, explained that before abandonment, the baby was delivered by DR independently without assistance in her bedroom at approximately 04:00 WIB.

DR works as a pool table assembler at WTC Mangga Dua, Central Jakarta. She became pregnant after a relationship with a customer.

Subsequently, the baby was wrapped in a sarong and placed inside a black rucksack.

Based on CCTV footage, DR was observed walking with her seven-year-old sister who carried the black rucksack containing the baby. The destination was the rubbish dump at Pasar Nalo, Pademangan Barat, approximately 800 metres from the perpetrator’s residence. After abandoning the baby, the perpetrator returned home.

The abandoned baby was later transferred to Pademangan General Hospital after being discovered by local residents.

DR is currently undergoing medical examination and intensive care at Kramat Jati Police Hospital, East Jakarta, due to her health condition.

The discovery of the baby at Pasar Nalo previously went viral on social media. According to an Instagram post from the @sekitaran_jakut account, the baby was found near the market rubbish dump at approximately 06:00 WIB.

A person attempting to dispose of rubbish reportedly heard the sound of a baby crying from inside the rucksack. When opened, the black bag contained a baby girl wrapped in a dark red sarong.
