Witness and Victim Protection Agency Funds Medical Treatment for Andrie Yunus at RSCM Hospital
Bekasi — The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) will provide comprehensive medical assistance to Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), who was attacked with caustic acid by unknown perpetrators.
“Yes, it will be free. We will provide comprehensive medical assistance,” said Sri Suparyati, Deputy Chair of LPSK, when contacted on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
LPSK is also preparing temporary living expenses for the family during the legal process and while the victim undergoes hospital treatment.
“We are also providing legal assistance for the family, and providing temporary accommodation,” said Sri.
Since Monday, 16 March 2026, Andrie and his family have been officially under LPSK protection.
Previously, LPSK had provided emergency protection to Andrie after receiving a request from the victim’s family.
The protection request was submitted on 13 March 2026 by the victim’s father, representing Andrie.
In the submission, the family requested various services, ranging from ensuring procedural rights, physical protection through close security, to medical assistance.
“Emergency protection is provided by considering the existence of security vulnerabilities regarding the victim’s safety, the needs of the law enforcement process, as well as the need for immediate medical treatment or physical protection,” said Sri in a statement on Sunday, 15 March 2026.
At the time of the incident, Yunus was travelling home after appearing on a podcast at the office of the Indonesia Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI).
Dimas Bagus Arya, Coordinator of the KontraS Working Body, stated that the incident occurred around 23:37 WIB in the area of Jalan Salemba I–Talang, Kecamatan Senen, Central Jakarta.
The victim, who was riding a motorcycle, was approached by two perpetrators who were also riding a motorcycle from the opposite direction.
The perpetrator driving the motorcycle was wearing a white and blue combination shirt, dark trousers believed to be denim, and a black helmet.
The perpetrator riding as passenger was wearing a black face covering, dark blue shirt, and blue long trousers rolled up.
One of the perpetrators then splashed a liquid believed to be caustic acid towards the victim, causing it to strike parts of his body.
As a result of the incident, Andrie suffered burns on both hands, face, chest, and eyes.
