Jakarta — PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) is continuing to innovate to deliver practical building-material product solutions and services based on research. The initiative is being realised through collaboration with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in joint research, invention, and innovation in the cement industry and its derivatives. Chief Executive Officer of Semen Indonesia (SIG), Indrieffouny Indra, said that research is the key to delivering building-material products that are superior and sustainable to meet the challenges and needs of a growing construction sector. ‘Therefore SIG collaborates with various relevant parties, including BRIN, to strengthen research and innovation in the cement field and its derivatives,’ he said in a written statement on Friday (22 May 2026). The two entities will also work together to jointly utilise facilities and infrastructure according to research activities and policy advocacy to implement sustainable development. The collaboration will also provide product and service solutions that support national economic recovery and responses to climate change, as well as enhancing the competencies of human resources (HR). ‘The collaboration on research with BRIN is a strategic move to deliver a range of building-material solutions that are of high quality and environmentally friendly. This also aligns with SIG’s transformation strategy to optimise cement by-products and the portfolio currently being pursued by the Company,’ Indra said. He explained that the signing of the memorandum of understanding with BRIN is an extension of the memorandum already conducted in July 2023. In the previous period, SIG and BRIN had undertaken a number of research projects, including the development of high-performance concrete with hydraulic cement, self-healing concrete to prevent and repair concrete cracking, chemical additives for cement and concrete; and the development of green concrete for coastal and marine infrastructure. Deputy Head of BRIN Amarulla Octavian hopes that the quality of the research and innovation can be improved and have a positive impact. He explained that BRIN Goes To Industry serves as a communication platform for stakeholders including industry, institutions, regulators, and the public to exchange information about products resulting from research and innovation. ‘BRIN Goes To Industry is the implementation of policy direction and the RPJMN 2025-2029 strategy, where BRIN contributes to national development priorities through strengthening research and innovation, and oriented towards harmony between humans, the environment, nature and culture, and promoting an inclusive and tolerant social life,’ he concluded.
