Wismoyo to end term of office
JAKARTA (JP): Army Chief Gen. Wismoyo Arismunandar will end his term of office on his retirement age of 55 in February.
Armed Forces (ABRI) Commander Gen. Feisal Tanjung, told reporters on Thursday, after addressing a meeting of the Islamic Propagation Council in Pondok Gede, East Jakarta, that the change of the guard of the army will be announced by ABRI spokesman Brig. Gen. Syarwan Hamid soon.
Sources at the ABRI information services told The Jakarta Post yesterday that Syarwan was currently in Germany.
Wismoyo was appointed by President Soeharto as army chief of staff on April 6, 1993, replacing Edi Sudrajat, who had assumed the post of minister of defense and security.
Wismoyo will be 55 on Feb. 10, 1994, the retirement age within ABRI.
Informed sources told The Jakarta Post that Lt. Gen. R. Hartono PS, the current chief of ABRI's Socio-political Affairs Department, is the strongest candidate to replace Wismoyo.
Hartono, former commander of the East Java Military Command, has held the post since January last year.
He graduated from the military academy in 1962.
