Wismoyo opens 10-K Dili walk competition
JAKARTA (JP): A huge field of 7,375 running enthusiasts took
part in the 10K walk in Dili, East Timor, which was opened by the
chairman of the National Sports Council (KONI) Wismoyo
Arismunandar on Saturday.
The race, made up of 544 groups and 721 individual entries,
started in front of the Immaculata Conceptio Cathedral, ran
through Dili's thoroughfares and finished in front of the Dili
Municipal Stadium.
Participants wore red and white T-shirts emblazened with the
picture of Maya Rumantir, owner of the Maya Gita Foundation which
organized the event, and a sentence which read "Love your
country, love each other."
East Timor Governor Abilio Jose Osorio Soares said he was
happy that the government entrusted the youngest province with
the hosting of the event. "Pak Wismoyo loves us so much that he
took time to come and open this race," Soares said.
Winners were awarded trophies, savings certificates and other
consolation prizes.
Present at the award-giving ceremony were Dili Archbishop
Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo, chief of the ninth military command
Adang Ruchiatna and East Timor Police Chief Sugianto Andreas.
