Wismoyo opens 10-K Dili walk competition<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A huge field of 7,375 running enthusiasts took
\npart in the 10K walk in Dili, East Timor, which was opened by the
\nchairman of the National Sports Council (KONI) Wismoyo
\nArismunandar on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The race, made up of 544 groups and 721 individual entries,
\nstarted in front of the Immaculata Conceptio Cathedral, ran
\nthrough Dili's thoroughfares and finished in front of the Dili
\nMunicipal Stadium.<\/p>\n
Participants wore red and white T-shirts emblazened with the
\npicture of Maya Rumantir, owner of the Maya Gita Foundation which
\norganized the event, and a sentence which read "Love your
\ncountry, love each other."<\/p>\n
East Timor Governor Abilio Jose Osorio Soares said he was
\nhappy that the government entrusted the youngest province with
\nthe hosting of the event. "Pak Wismoyo loves us so much that he
\ntook time to come and open this race," Soares said.<\/p>\n
Winners were awarded trophies, savings certificates and other
\nconsolation prizes.<\/p>\n
Present at the award-giving ceremony were Dili Archbishop
\nCarlos Filipe Ximenes Belo, chief of the ninth military command
\nAdang Ruchiatna and East Timor Police Chief Sugianto Andreas.
