Wise Use of Fuel Oil: Real Solutions to Face the Energy Crisis and Climate Change
Amid rising pressures from the global energy crisis and increasingly tangible threats of climate change, society’s energy consumption patterns have come under intense scrutiny. How we use fuel oil (BBM) today will determine the quality of life for future generations. Changing behaviour to consume BBM wisely is no longer merely an option but a necessity to safeguard the nation’s future.
Director of The Climate Reality Project Indonesia, Amanda Katili Niode, emphasised that the issue of wise BBM usage must urgently transform from mere discourse into everyday reality. According to her, there is a direct correlation between public BBM consumption and the escalation of the climate crisis.
“Every litre of BBM we burn means we are adding greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere. The impact is real, and we are already feeling it today,” said Amanda.
Amanda explained that phenomena such as extreme weather, unpredictable seasonal shifts, and recurring disasters like floods and droughts are not future threats but the bitter reality of today. In this context, societal mobility habits reliant on BBM become a crucial factor that cannot be ignored.
Here is a summary of the impacts of excessive BBM usage on the environment and quality of life:
Although fully supporting campaigns for wise BBM usage, Amanda reminded that the concept of “wise” does not mean rigidly limiting activities. The core is using energy with full awareness, efficiency, and responsibility.
“This is not about prohibiting people from using vehicles, but about how we manage that energy,” she clarified. She added that major changes often arise from the accumulation of small, consistent actions, such as:
The current global energy crisis, marked by price fluctuations and supply disruptions, should serve as a turning point for society to reassess long-held consumption patterns deemed normal. Amanda views this situation as a golden opportunity to shift towards a sustainable lifestyle.
“We cannot continue relying on limited and environmentally damaging energy sources. Future generations will bear the heaviest burden from our decisions today. So, let us start acting wisely in using BBM today,” she concluded.
