Wiranto to replace Hendro

JAKARTA (JP): After being assigned as the City Military commander for a year and seven months, Maj. Gen. Hendropriyono will be replaced by his Chief of Staff, Brig. Gen. Wiranto, says Indonesian Armed Forces (ABRI) spokesman Brig. Gen. Syarwan Hamid.

The precise date for the inauguration ceremony has yet to be set. The Jakarta Military Office celebrates its anniversary on Dec. 24.

Hendropriyono, widely known as Hendro, will become commander to the new Bandung-based Education and Training Command (Kodiklat) and will be inaugurated next week.

Wiranto was just appointed city military chief of staff eight months ago.

The replacement of Hendro has sparked rumors and may have something to do with a series of public disturbances which have taken place in the city, especially during the recent APEC meeting. (bsr)
