Wie Wie wins final national drag race

JAKARTA (JP): Local driver Wie Wie Rianto from the Jakarta Firna Racing Team won the fifth and final national drag race at the Sentul circuit, near Bogor, on Sunday.

Wie Wie, driving a Ford Capri and competing in the Free for All race, led from start until finish in the 402-meter race. He clocked 9.699 seconds. This was the fastest time made by Wie Wie throughout the five legs.

Canadian Robert Paul, who works in an oil company and is a member of the Star Mild Team, was in second place with a time of 11.035. Third place went to Budi Permana Putra, from the Jakarta Firna Racing Team, clocking 11.326.

Wie Wie's victory on Sunday, however, did not put him in this year's top position in the national drag championships. Wie Wie collected only 79 points. Paul took top position with 80 points. Hery Agung of Semarang was third with 65 points.

The drag races also saw competitions in the 1000cc to 1800cc cars, jeeps and Volkswagens. (lnt)
