Why the Prambanan-Purwomartani Toll Road Cannot Open Fully During Lebaran Holiday
Yogyakarta – The Kartasura-YIA Kulonprogo expressway section continues to be developed as a strategic corridor linking the Solo region, Yogyakarta, and Yogyakarta International Airport.
However, ahead of the Lebaran holiday exodus, one segment of the toll road—Prambanan-Purwomartani—cannot yet open fully for holiday travellers. PT Jasamarga Jogja Solo’s Finance Director, Yhanni Haryanto, explained that this is due to ongoing construction at several locations.
He added that these conditions prevent the toll road section from being immediately operated fully, particularly because there are still obstacles with exit access leading to the national highway.
“Because of this, full operation from Prambanan to Purwomartani is not yet possible at this time. Particularly the exit section from Purwomartani towards the national highway, as there are still several parcels of land that have not been cleared,” he said.
According to Yhanni, if the toll road were forced to operate in its current condition, the potential for traffic disruptions could occur because the exit access is not fully ready.
“That would certainly be an obstacle if forced to operate now,” he said.
As a temporary solution, the operator will only run a portion of the toll road in a limited capacity during the Lebaran period. Under this scheme, travellers can temporarily use only the westbound lane towards the east.
Overall, this toll road project will eventually become an important corridor linking the Solo region to the international airport in Kulonprogo. Although unable to open fully, the operator is still targeting partial operation of the toll road this year to support traffic flow.
“However, what we will operate this year is the 12.22-kilometre section from Prambanan to Purwomartani,” he said.
