The construction of the golf course in Kepuharjo Village,
Yogyakarta by PT Merapi Gelanggang Wisata should be reviewed. The
Local government needs to consider a few things:

* The golf course is on land which is designated for
agricultural expansion. Moreover, Kepuharjo is categorized as a
least developed village.

* Kepuharjo is an important protected forest area of
Zone C. Unfortunately, the golf course owners use pesticides
harmful to the ecosystem and threaten species in the surrounding
areas.

* The village serves as a ground water reservoir. The ground
will harden due to the golf course and this will decrease the
fertility of the land.

* The 18-hole golf course needs at least 200 tons of clean
water per day to maintain the imported grass. If the water is
taken from the supply piped to Yogyakarta from the Plunyon dam,
Umbulharjo village, Kaliurang and the surrounding areas will have
a shortage of clean water.

Who will be held responsible for this calamity?
