The construction of the golf course in Kepuharjo Village,
\nYogyakarta by PT Merapi Gelanggang Wisata should be reviewed. The
\nLocal government needs to consider a few things:<\/p>\n
* The golf course is on land which is designated for
\nagricultural expansion. Moreover, Kepuharjo is categorized as a
\nleast developed village.<\/p>\n
* Kepuharjo is an important protected forest area of
\nZone C. Unfortunately, the golf course owners use pesticides
\nharmful to the ecosystem and threaten species in the surrounding
\nareas.<\/p>\n
* The village serves as a ground water reservoir. The ground
\nwill harden due to the golf course and this will decrease the
\nfertility of the land.<\/p>\n
* The 18-hole golf course needs at least 200 tons of clean
\nwater per day to maintain the imported grass. If the water is
\ntaken from the supply piped to Yogyakarta from the Plunyon dam,
\nUmbulharjo village, Kaliurang and the surrounding areas will have
\na shortage of clean water.<\/p>\n
Who will be held responsible for this calamity?<\/p>\n
