The official White House account on social media uploaded a video of a United States military strike on Iran, accompanied by animation footage from the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The roughly one-minute video was posted on 4 March 2026 local US time on the X (Twitter) platform via the official White House account with the handle @WhiteHouse.

The content featured several recordings of US military strikes against various targets in Iran. Approximately five seconds at the beginning of the video showed users the “Killstreak” animation from the warfare game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The Killstreak animation typically appears when Call of Duty players achieve 30 eliminations without dying in the game.

The US Government did not explain why they uploaded a video of actual military strikes beginning with a Killstreak clip from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

However, they stated that the video was “Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue”, essentially meaning the video was presented by the United States (the US flag is red, white, and blue).

Activision, the owner of the Call of Duty franchise licence, as well as its parent company Xbox, have not yet issued an official statement regarding the use of animation from their game in video documentation of warfare involving US strikes on Iran.

The use of the Killstreak animation clip from Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 in actual war documentation drew criticism.

In the reply column of the White House’s post, the majority of users expressed disappointment, arguing that the White House lacked sensitivity and was treating the strike on Iran as a joke.

This content emerged several days after the US joined Israel in launching air strikes on Iran. The strikes reportedly killed hundreds of people.

One notable incident was a missile strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ primary school in Iran on 28 February 2026. Reports indicated that several children were among the fatalities.

The US and Israel have not acknowledged responsibility for the strikes. However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that they are still investigating the incident.

“What I know at this point is that we are investigating it. Of course, we never target civilians, but we are looking at and investigating what happened,” Rubio said.
