When Will Civil Servants and Private Sector Start WFH? Here's What Airlangga Says
The government plans to implement a work-from-home policy for Civil Servants (ASN) or Public Servants (PNS) and the private sector to save on fuel oil (BBM) consumption as part of preparations to face the turmoil of the Middle East war. The government previously stated that this policy would be applied after Eid al-Fitr 2026. So, when exactly will this WFH policy be implemented? Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that the certainty of the work-from-home policy is currently still in the discussion stage and not final. “There is still discussion. Not final,” he told the media at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy office in Jakarta on Thursday (26/3/2026). When asked when the policy announcement would be enforced, Airlangga said, “Yes, it will be announced later.” The government has proposed a Work From Home or WFH policy for one day a week to save on fuel consumption amid global turmoil. This WFH implementation plan was discussed in a meeting led by Coordinating Minister Airlangga yesterday via video conference. The meeting was also attended by Interior Minister Tito Karnavian, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Tito explained that the meeting also discussed the WFH policy for civil servants (ASN) for fuel savings after the global oil price surge. Nevertheless, he was still unwilling to reveal details regarding the plan. Tito said one of the schemes being considered is WFH for one day a week. Although he was not willing to reveal when the plan would be implemented.
