The Isbat session for Eid al-Fitr 2026 is scheduled to be held on Thursday, 19 March 2026, coinciding with the 29th of Ramadan 1447 AH.

The session will be convened to formally establish the beginning of 1 Shawwal 1447 AH, or Eid al-Fitr.

The Isbat session will take place at the H.M. Rasjidi Auditorium at the office of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs in Jakarta, commencing at 16:00 WIB.

The Director General of Islamic Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Abu Rokhmad, stated that this location was selected because it is deemed capable of accommodating invited guests whilst also facilitating vehicle access arrangements.

Additionally, the venue selection took into account conditions approaching the end of Ramadan, when many members of the public and employees have begun travelling for the homecoming period.

The prediction is based on the lunar crescent elevation map approaching the end of Ramadan, which indicates that on 19 March 2026, the position of the new crescent moon is predicted not yet to meet the visibility criteria used by member states of MABIMS (Majlis Agama Islam Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore).

Under these criteria, the start of the Islamic month can be established if the crescent’s elevation is at least 3 degrees and the elongation is at least 6.4 degrees at sunset.

Should the crescent’s position fail to meet these requirements, Ramadan is typically extended to 30 days, with the beginning of Shawwal estimated to fall on 21 March 2026.

Nevertheless, the government remains awaiting the outcome of the Isbat session to formally determine when Eid al-Fitr is to be observed.

This decision is outlined in Muhammadiyah Central Leadership Statement Number 2/MLM/I.0/E/2025 regarding the determination of calculation results for Ramadan, Shawwal, and Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH.

The determination employs the hakiki wujudul hilal method, which is an astronomical calculation method that has long served as the guideline for this organisation in determining the beginning of the Islamic month.

This year, Muhammadiyah is also using the Unified Global Islamic Calendar (KHGT) system, which promotes the principle of a single date across the entire world.
