Muslims are currently observing the fasting of Ramadan 1447 AH, which has lasted for about two weeks. This means we are approaching the honour of Lailatul Qadar. Lailatul Qadar, as reported by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), occurs on one of the last ten nights of Ramadan, the night on which the Qur’an was revealed. In his revelation, Allah states that Lailatul Qadar is better than a thousand months. Therefore, Muslims are recommended to increase good deeds during the last ten days of Ramadan, and especially on the nights themselves, with the aim of attaining the virtue of Lailatul Qadar. So, when does the 10 last nights of Ramadan 2026 arrive? Let us answer by revisiting the Ramadan calendar for 1447 H.

When is the Start of Ramadan 1447 H / 2026 AD?

Muhammadiyah fixed the start of Ramadan 1447 H or 2026 AD to fall on 18 February 2026. This decision was announced by the Central Leadership (PP) Muhammadiyah and was based on Maklumat No. 2/MLM/I0.E/2025 issued by the Tarjih and Tajdid Council after performing a realistic calculation based on the Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT).

Meanwhile, the government through the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) of Indonesia and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) have different determinations. The government, through the First Ramadan I’tbat meeting, officially fixed the start of Ramadan 1447 H or 2026 AD the day after, namely 19 February 2026. In the same vein, the PBNU (Pengurus Besar Nahdlatul Ulama) fixed the start of fasting on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

What Date is Lailatul Qadar 2026?

In principle there is no exact certainty about the time of Lailatul Qadar. After all, there is no Surah in the Qur’an or hadith that explicitly states the exact timing of Lailatul Qadar. Therefore, its time remains a mystery known only to Allah SWT.

However, as we have known so far, Lailatul Qadar is sought during the last ten days of Ramadan. This certainty is based on a hadith narrated by Imam Bukhari from Aisyah RA. In that hadith, the Prophet Muhammad SAW said:

تَحَرَّوْا لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ فِي الْوَتْرِ مِنَ العَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ

Translation: “Be earnest in seeking Lailatul Qadar on the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.” (HR Bukhari)

However, the Prophet Muhammad SAW did not disclose exactly when Lailatul Qadar would occur. Therefore, Muslims are encouraged to increase their deeds during the last ten days of Ramadan, whatever those deeds may be, such as Tarawih prayers, i’tikaf, reading the Qur’an and remembering Allah.

When are the Last 10 Nights of Ramadan 2026?

If we refer to the above hadith and the start of Ramadan 1447 H beginning on 18 February 2026 in accordance with the start of fasting determined by Muhammadiyah, then the 10 last nights of Ramadan 2026 fall on:

  • Night 20 of Ramadan 1447 H: Sunday, 8 March 2026 evening

  • Night 21 of Ramadan 1447 H: Monday, 9 March 2026 evening

What Are the Deeds for the 10 Last Nights of Ramadan?

As a guide, here are some deeds that can be performed on the night of Lailatul Qadar to complete the worship in the month of Ramadan, as cited from the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI) and NU Online.

  1. Observing Tarawih Prayers

Tarawih is the name for the night prayers performed during Ramadan. These prayers are typically performed in either 11 or 23 rak‘ahs, including the Witr. The virtue of performing them is the forgiveness of sins. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:

من قام المضان إيمانا واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه

Translation: “Whoever establishes the Ramadan night prayers in faith and seeking reward will have their past sins forgiven.” (Muttafaq ’alaihi)

  1. I’tikaf

Another practice for filling Lailatul Qadar is i’tikaf. According to the reference book Panduan Lengkap Puasa Ramadhan Menurut Al-Qur’an dan Sunnah by Abu Abdillah Syahrul Fatwa and Abu Ubaidah Yusuf, in technical terms, i’tikaf is to remain in a mosque to draw closer to Allah from a person who possesses certain exclusive attributes. The Prophet Muhammad is known to observe i’tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. Aisha (RA) said:

Translation: “The Messenger of Allah would stay in seclusion (i’tikaf) during the last ten days of Ramadan and would say: Seek Lailatul Qadar in the last ten days of Ramadan.” (HR Bukhari no 2020)

  1. Reciting the Dua for Lailatul Qadar

The supplication for the night of Lailatul Qadar was taught by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to Aisha (RA). Here is the core hadith:

وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ_q قَالَتْ: قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَرَأَيْتَ إنْ وَافَقْت لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ مَا أَقُولُ فِيهَا؟ قَالَ: قُولِي: اللَّهُ
