WhatsApp Launches Dedicated Child Account with Parental Monitoring Features
Platform messaging service WhatsApp has launched a dedicated WhatsApp account for children, to be managed by parents.
The account is aimed at users aged 10 to 12 years old to enable them to use WhatsApp under close supervision from parents or guardians.
WhatsApp explained that the account has been designed with new controls to limit children’s activity when using the application, including when sending messages and making calls.
“With input from families and experts, we are launching a new parent-managed account that allows parents or guardians to set up WhatsApp for children aged 10–12 years,” said WhatsApp in an official statement received by KompasTekno on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
If a child receives a message request from an unknown contact, parents can review the request and manage the child’s account privacy settings.
Additionally, parents can set which groups their child is allowed to join, allowing more control over their child’s communication activities on the application.
To begin using this account, parents need to prepare their child’s mobile device as well as their own device to link the account.
Once linked, all monitoring settings can be managed directly by the parent or guardian through their own mobile device.
This means that the content of messages and calls on the child’s account cannot be accessed, viewed, or heard by others, including WhatsApp itself.
WhatsApp also stated that the parental monitoring settings on this account are protected by a special PIN, so only parents or guardians can modify these rules.
WhatsApp also announced that the parent-managed child account will be rolled out gradually over the coming months.
The company is opening a channel for user feedback so that this new account type can continue to be developed by WhatsApp in an optimal manner.
