WhatsApp Groups Get Tidier: New Feature Allows Sharing Chat History with New Members
Jakarta, VIVA – WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called Group Message History, designed to make group chat experiences more practical and convenient.
Through this feature, both admins and members can share recent messages with newly joined members, enabling them to immediately understand the context of ongoing conversations.
This long-awaited feature allows the sharing of between 25 and up to 100 of the most recent messages when adding new members to a group.
As a result, new members need only read the most relevant conversations without having to request screenshots or separately forwarded messages. Like other private messages, Group Message History remains protected by end-to-end encryption, ensuring security and privacy are maintained.
The sharing of message history is also optional. Admins have control to disable this setting, but can still share message history at any time if needed.
To maintain transparency, all group members will receive a notification when message history is shared. The messages are displayed complete with timestamps and sender names, and are visually distinguished from regular messages.
WhatsApp is rolling out this feature gradually as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the quality and privacy of group chat experiences.
