What should the elderly be called?

What should the elderly be called?

From Kompas

The term manula (aged people) sounds derogatory because the
word manusia in the acronym means "humans" as the counterpart of
"animals".

In order to make it more refined within an administrative
connotation, it should be replaced by warga (citizens). The term
usia lanjut (aged) for ula is not neutral either. It suggests
incapacity or helplessness. In other countries, they call their
aged "senior citizens".

If we use the last-mentioned term, or at least wulan for warga
usia lanjut, meaning aged citizens instead of "aged humans",
those belonging to this group will be happy. The fact is that
wulan has been gradually applied, but manula remains in frequent
use.

The recommendation in this letter, however, by no means
reduces my appreciation for the special attention paid by some
companies to "senior citizens", who are allowed ticket discounts,
for instance.
