What is a Refurbished Smartphone? Samsung's Certified Re-Newed Handsets at Lower Prices
Samsung now officially sells refurbished smartphones through its ‘Certified Re-Newed’ programme in India. Through this programme, Samsung offers various Galaxy phone models at lower prices than new units. Some models available include the Samsung Galaxy A56 5G to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
What exactly is a refurbished phone? Refurbished phones are pre-owned devices that have undergone inspection, repair, and retesting before resale. Unlike regular used phones, refurbished devices are typically processed by the manufacturer or official partners. In Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed programme, the company ensures all devices undergo thorough inspection, cleaning, hardware testing, and software validation. Samsung also claims all refurbished phones are repaired using genuine Samsung parts. Additionally, devices are reset to remove previous user data and updated to the latest software before resale.
As they are not brand new, refurbished phones are usually cheaper than new ones. For example, the Samsung Galaxy A56 5G refurbished with 8GB RAM is priced at ₹31,499 (approx. £295 or Rp 5.7 million), cheaper than the new version at ₹33,999 (Rp 6.2 million). Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra refurbished 256GB variant is priced at ₹97,499 (approx. £930 or Rp 17.8 million), slightly cheaper than the new unit at ₹99,999 (Rp 18.3 million).
