The West Sumatra provincial government is preparing a non-competitive Tour de Singkarak (TdS) to promote the tourism sector of Ranah Minang on the international stage. “So, besides the competition, we are also preparing a non-competitive TdS or adopting the sport tourism concept so that West Sumatra’s tourism becomes more widely known internationally,” said the Head of the West Sumatra Tourism Office, Lila Yuwana, in Padang on Tuesday. Lila stated that the organisation of TdS, particularly sport tourism, will collaborate with the West Sumatra Youth and Sports Office. This collaboration is expected not only to boost tourism progress but also the sports world in Ranah Minang. For the funding of TdS 2027, the provincial government will seek assistance from the central government, the World Bank, and sponsors. The areas concerned are the city of Padang, Tanah Datar Regency, Padang Panjang City, Bukittinggi City, Pesisir Selatan Regency, Dharmasraya Regency, Solok Selatan Regency, and Agam Regency. “One of them relates to the readiness of budgets from those regencies and cities available in the 2027 budget implementation document for the TdS 2027 implementation,” she said. Regarding the cost of infrastructure improvements such as roads for the TdS event, Lila said it cannot yet be confirmed. Because road improvement planning will be adjusted with the West Sumatra Public Works, Spatial Planning, and Human Settlements Office up to the central government. By organising TdS in 2027, the West Sumatra provincial government hopes the world’s eyes will once again focus on Ranah Minang. Besides efforts to reintroduce TdS, this agenda also targets tourism vibrancy, creative economy, micro, small, and medium enterprises, and sport tourism.
