West Kalimantan High Prosecutor's Office Acknowledges Alleged Officer Negligence Following Escape of Three Detainees from Pontianak District Prosecutor's Office
The High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) of West Kalimantan has acknowledged the alleged negligence of officers when three detainees escaped from detention cells at the District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.
The incident occurred whilst the suspects were undergoing the second stage of case handover from police investigators to prosecutors.
“In essence, there may have been negligence because at that time there were 11 people going through stage two, so perhaps the officers did not notice their movements, thinking someone had taken them, when in fact the standard operating procedures already exist and are clear,” said I Wayan, Head of the Legal Information Section at Kejati West Kalimantan, when contacted on Wednesday (11 March 2026).
Wayan stated that at the time of the incident, many suspects were undergoing stage-two procedures, causing officers to move in and out of the detention room in turns.
“Perhaps at that time, in essence, because the cell door was not locked,” he said.
In the latest development, two of the three detainees who escaped have been recaptured by a joint team of prosecutors and police. Both are Anang Noor Asmady, also known as Anang bin Muhammad Noor, and Sri Iswanto, also known as Kipli bin M. Jafar Sidik. They were arrested in the Sintang area of West Kalimantan.
Meanwhile, a third detainee, Apriadi bin Suroto, remains at large.
“Once we coordinated with the Kejati team and police, we moved quickly and made arrests of two individuals today. The third one is still being pursued,” he said.
Anang Noor Asmady faces charges under Article 591(a) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) relating to aiding and abetting a crime. Sri Iswanto faces charges under Articles 477(1)(f) and (g) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code relating to theft.
