Pontianak (ANTARA) - West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan preserved the tradition of Makan Saprahan as part of the Eid open house 2026 held at the West Kalimantan Governor’s Pendopo. “Makan Saprahan is a distinctive Malay tradition that serves as the main agenda in Eid silaturahim with the community, while also symbolising the preservation of local wisdom amidst the flow of modernisation,” said Ria Norsan in Pontianak on Monday. During the Eid open house, Ria Norsan and her family mingled without barriers with government officials, religious figures, customary leaders, and the public, sitting cross-legged on the floor covered with seprah cloth. The communal eating method was carried out with six people per dish group as a manifestation of togetherness and equality. “Makan Saprahan reflects the identity of West Kalimantan society where there are no barriers between leaders and the people; everyone sits together enjoying the same blessings. On this blessed day, we strengthen brotherhood and mutual respect,” she stated. She emphasised that preserving this tradition is part of efforts to bolster regional cultural resilience while enhancing Eid al-Fitr silaturahim. Various local dishes were served in the tradition, including West Kalimantan’s pacri nanas, ketupat patlau, beef rendang, chicken opor, and sayur dalca, enjoyed together with the guests. The cultural event was attended by family, relatives, community figures, religious leaders, customary leaders, local residents, and heads of regional apparatus organisations within the West Kalimantan Provincial Government. In addition to the Saprahan tradition, the Governor also held an open Eid al-Fitr house for two days, open to the entire community without special invitations, as a manifestation of togetherness between the local government and residents.
