West Java to Implement Commodity Auctions at WIITEX 2026 to Protect Farmers' Prices
The West Java Provincial Government is implementing a commodity auction system within the West Java International Industry and Trade Expo (WIITEX) 2026 to guarantee price transparency and protect the profit margins of coffee, tea, and cocoa farmers at the upstream level.
The Head of the West Java Industry and Trade Office (Disperindag), Nining Yuliastiani, stated in Bandung on Thursday that this open auction scheme is intentionally designed to ensure that the prices of local agricultural products are not manipulated below fair market rates.
“We will conduct a commodity auction. Alhamdulillah, it has been confirmed that for coffee, tea, and cocoa, there are already business actors whose products are ready for auction, and both buyers and traders will be present. This will ensure that prices are transparent and in line with fair market value. Therefore, prices will not drop, and farmers will eventually experience better returns in terms of pricing,” said Nining.
This measure to protect the value of local resource-based commodities is considered crucial, given the international market preference for West Java’s coffee and cocoa, which is predicted to continue growing. A significant increase has also been observed in processed cocoa, which was valued at 687 million USD in 2025 (with a volume of 75 million tons), and in the first quarter of 2026, it has already secured an export value of 123 million USD.
Nining added that this integrated upstream-to-downstream exhibition is not only open to large corporations but also provides wide access for the general public and smallholder farmers to consult directly regarding export regulations and quality standardisation alongside 19 related institutions, including Customs, Quarantine, and the Ministry of Trade.
On a separate occasion, the Head of the Plantation Team of the Directorate General of Estate Crops at the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, Irman Adi Purwanto Moefthi, expressed his support for the strengthening of these plantation commodities.
“Through the integration of regional and national exhibitions, we hope that the transaction value of Indonesian plantation commodities this year can surpass the achievements of the TEI last year, which recorded figures above 20 billion USD,” said Irman.
WIITEX 2026, themed “The Golden Belt of Java: Coffee, Tea, and Cocoa for The Future,” is scheduled to be held from 12–14 June 2026 at Summarecon Bandung.
