West Java prisons authority transfers 120 Depok detainees to Nusakambangan
Bandung (ANTARA) – The West Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) has transferred 120 detainees from Depok Class I Detention Centre to Nusakambangan Prison in Central Java following allegations of a methamphetamine party inside the facility.
“120 from Depok. Yes, that’s right [it was connected to the meth party],” Ishadi Maja Prayitno, head of the Development and Services Division at the West Java Ditjenpas office, said in a statement received in Bandung on Sunday.
Ishadi said most of those transferred were prisoners convicted of drug offences. The transfer was approved by the Directorate General of Corrections at the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas).
“That’s right, most are drug-related detainees. Perhaps around 20 or so were convicted of general crimes. The point is, all the drug convicts are being transferred to Nusakambangan, in line with the Directorate General’s instructions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Yudi Suseno, head of the Corrections Division at the West Java Ditjenpas office, said officials had also taken action over the alleged involvement of staff in the methamphetamine party with detainees at Depok detention centre.
He said legal action had been initiated against employees suspected of involvement.
“The matter is being handled on the basis of the results of an examination, which is still under way. As for the employees involved, the detention centre head filed a police report yesterday, and it is being followed up,” Yudi said.
Earlier, a video showing a group of men believed to be detainees dancing and partying with methamphetamine in an enclosed room went viral on social media.
The footage shows several men gathered and dancing to loud music. One man is also seen holding a bottle believed to have been used as a methamphetamine-smoking device, or bong.
