West Java Police: Kidnapping victim in Bandung blinded by boyfriend

Kota Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) have revealed that a female victim, identified by the initials YTR (29), suffered blindness and multiple serious injuries after being held captive and abused by her boyfriend, TH, for approximately three years in Bandung Regency. Head of Public Relations for Polda Jabar, Senior Superintendent Hendra Rochmawan, stated that according to the post-mortem report, the victim sustained serious injuries to her face and eyes. “What is certain is that both her eyes, based on the post-mortem results, have suffered blindness, that is the most severe. Then six of her upper front teeth are missing and her lip is cleft,” Hendra said in Bandung on Monday. Hendra said the suspect, identified by the initials TH, is still being pursued by the police. “The perpetrator has not been arrested yet. We have just formed a joint team,” he said. According to him, investigators have also been unable to take a direct statement from the victim because her physical condition and communication ability are still limited. “The victim has not undergone an examination report because she cannot yet communicate clearly,” he said. Hendra explained that the case came to light after the victim’s family received a message via WhatsApp from an unknown person informing them that the victim was in the Emergency Room of Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung. “After that, the victim’s family went to RSHS and discovered that the victim was in a state of serious injury to the head, face, legs, and minor injuries to the hands,” he said. He revealed that before being found at the hospital, the victim’s whereabouts had been unknown to her family for approximately three years. “Previously, the victim had disappeared, there was no news and her whereabouts were unknown for about three years,” Hendra stated. According to him, during that period, the victim is suspected to have suffered repeated abuse by the reported perpetrator using hands, blunt objects, and sharp weapons.
