West Java Police arrest suspect in shooting of student in Garut

Garut (ANTARA) — West Java Police’s Resmob team, together with Garut Police, have arrested a 19-year-old man identified by the initials MHA, who is suspected of shooting a student and causing a serious injury to his left eye in Garut Regency.

“ The suspect was then taken to Garut Police headquarters with the evidence for further questioning,” West Java Police public relations chief, Senior Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, told reporters on Saturday.

Hendra said MHA was arrested on Friday afternoon, 9 October 2026, in the Gang Babakan Pogor area of Mangkurakyat village, Cilawu district, Garut Regency, after police had been searching for him for several days.

During the arrest, officers also seized a black-and-silver Glock 19-style airsoft gun believed to be connected to the incident.

The victim, a high-school student in Garut, suffered a serious injury to his left eye and required medical treatment at Cicendo Hospital.

“The victim was found to have swelling and bleeding in his left eye after returning from a camping activity,” Hendra said.

The victim was initially said to have been injured by a plastic ball. However, a medical examination at Cicendo Hospital found metal fragments in his left eye.

According to one of the victim’s friends, a man identified by the initials MHA allegedly came to the event location and fired the weapon three times, hitting the victim’s left eye.

Investigators are still establishing the sequence of events and the alleged offences based on the results of their inquiry.

The victim was earlier identified as 15-year-old Pazwa Pahaludin, a high-school student living in Cilawu district, Garut Regency. Initial reports said the incident took place during a school alumni gathering at a location in Sukawening district, Garut.

The victim was taken to hospital for medical treatment after sustaining the eye injury.
