Social media has once again been abuzz with the case of an alleged hair-cutting incident involving a female student by a Guidance and Counselling (BK) teacher at SMKN 2 Garut. In response to the controversy, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has taken action by summoning the BK teacher and the involved student for mediation.

In a post on his social media, Dedi Mulyadi stated that such issues should be resolved collaboratively between the school and the student’s parents. According to him, communication is crucial in handling disciplinary matters within the school environment.

“The school and parents must always work together to resolve matters like this,” Dedi said in the caption of his Instagram post, quoted on Friday, 8 May 2026.

During the meeting, Dedi first questioned the academic performance and behaviour of the students from the BK teacher in question. The BK teacher explained that the female students had no issues with academics or behaviour at school.

However, the BK teacher admitted to receiving numerous complaints from male students and even angkot drivers regarding the appearance of some female students, who were said to have blonde hair and wore heavy facial makeup in the school environment.

In response, Dedi Mulyadi opined that if the issue was solely about appearance, teachers should suffice with giving warnings without taking actions that provoke controversy.

The BK teacher then admitted that the school had actually issued several warnings to the students regarding school appearance rules.

“It’s been reminded many times, and the accumulation of that has led to frequent warnings,” said the BK teacher in an official YouTube broadcast of Saluran Lembur Pakuan.

Dedi also highlighted the importance of parental involvement in handling students. He questioned whether the school had sent a letter to the students’ guardians before taking action. However, the school admitted that it had not done so.

“When reprimanding a child, the child is still under guardianship. That means there is a guardian parent; teachers should get into the habit of sending a letter to the parents,” Dedi said.

In the dialogue, it was revealed that the involved female student was from the broadcasting major. According to Dedi, the use of facial makeup is still related to the needs of the major chosen by the student.
